Besides, isnt a vacation all about living in the present moment?

On December 9, 1995, Jean-Dominique Bauby, the editor-in-chief of Elle magazine, had a stroke and fell into a coma. Twenty days later he woke up with mental abilities intact but physically paralyzed with ‘locked in’ syndrome. He could only slightly move his head and eyes. He wrote the book, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, by blinking his left eyelid.
In his book, Bauby describes his life before his stroke and what it is like to be locked into his body afterwards. He wrote it by using a transcriber that went through the alphabet until Bauby blinked to pick the next letter. It took him 200,000 blinks to write the book with an average time of two minutes per word.
Bauby wrote in the prologue:
.
Through the frayed curtain at my window, a wan glow announces the break of day. My heels hurt, my head weighs a ton and something like a giant invisible cocoon holds my whole body prisoner. My room emerges slowly from the gloom. I linger over every item: photos of loved ones, my children’s drawings, posters, the little tin cyclist sent by a friend the day before the Paris-Roubaix bike race and the IV pole hanging over the bed where I have been confined these past six months, like a hermit crab dug into his rock…
I decided to stop pitying myself. Other than my eye, two things aren’t paralyzed, my memory and my imagination… My diving bell becomes less oppressive, and my mind takes flight like a butterfly. There is so much to do.
.
I think of Bauby blinking his way past his paralyzed world, and I wonder: what was his secret? How did he have the strength to struggle through each word instead of fading into his own sorrow? How did he find a way to see what he still had left instead of all that he had lost?
He died soon after his book was published, but he left us the gift of his gratitude. He was locked into his body, but he used his mind to set him free. We sometimes do the opposite by locking ourselves into our own minds, remaining disconnected from our surroundings.
—– Nothing Here
Last year we were at a hotel next to the Ramon crater in Israel. I was standing at the edge of the crater at sunset, watching the light bathe the red rocks with an ethereal glow. It looked like the world must have looked like at the beginning of time; just the Creator and the space to create a crater. The horizon melted into the earth as the night began to fall.

Then someone a few steps away from me said loudly into her phone, "There’s nothing to do here! I am bored out of my mind."
How do we break free from the ‘there’s-nothing-to-see-here’ syndrome? Here are five ways to help unlock the door to gratitude:
— 1. "I have what I need." This is a blessing we say every morning: Thank You for providing me with everything that I need. But how many of us really mean it? On the days that I think about the words carefully, I am astounded by their truth. God provides me with my every need, with each part of my life designed to enable me to grow and give and fulfill my purpose in this world. I may want a hundred other things. But those are wants, not needs. Don’t make your wants into needs.
— 2. "I appreciate you." The ‘you’ in this sentence can be your spouse, your co-worker, your friend or even the clerk at the supermarket. And it’s nice if you say this out loud, but even if you say it just in your mind, you will not only increase your own sense of gratitude, but you will end up strengthening your relationships. When we become aware of the value of our friends and family members, we end up treating them better and then appreciating them more in a continuous, upward spiral.
— 3. "I believe." It is very hard to be grateful in a chaotic, senseless world. We all need to believe in something beyond ourselves. And we need to know what we believe and to not be afraid to stand behind it. When we focus on our values and what we know to be true, we can access not only gratitude for today but also hope for tomorrow’s potential.
— 4. "This is what I love." I once had the following assignment in a positive psychology course in university: List everything that you love about life. It surprised me how hard it was to begin that assignment, but once I had started, it was hard to stop. The aroma of coffee. The way the sidewalk sparkles in the morning light. A child’s laughter. Flowers. Books. Running. Shabbos candles. Deep conversations. The color of the sky after it rains…Even if you pick one thing once a day, it will incrementally increase your sense of gratitude by highlighting what you love in life.
— 5. "I want to know." Be curious about the world around you. Ask how things work. Wonder why. Be interested in other people and how they see the world. This will help you to be attuned to your surroundings and to recognize the beauty in your life.
Every now and then I re-read the first paragraph of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. I think about the times in my life that I have thought that there is nothing to see, nothing to do, nothing to be grateful for. And I blink my own eyes and remember. Gratitude itself is a gift that we are offered each day. It is up to us to see it. It is up to us to receive it. Unlock your mind. There is so much to do.

SEC Says Rudy Ruettiger Is A Stock Scammer
www.forbes.com/sites/nathanvardi/2011/12/16/sec-says-rudy…
To many football and movie fans, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger is a hero, an ordinary kid who overcame extraordinary odds through hard work and determination to become part of Notre Dame folklore.
The Securities & Exchange Commission, however, says Rudy Ruettiger has grown up to become a penny stock promoter and scammer. The former Notre Dame walk-on has agreed to pay 2,866 to resolve the SEC’s claim that he participated in a pump-and-dump, fraudulently inducing investors to bid up the stock of his sports drink company, Rudy Nutrition. He did not admit or deny the allegations.
According to the SEC complaint filed in federal court in Las Vegas, Ruettiger’s company sold only a small amount of a sports drink called “Rudy” and instead the company served as a vehicle for a 2008 pump-and-dump scheme that generated million in illicit profits. The SEC revoked registration of the stock of Rudy Nutrition in 2008.
“Investors were lured into the scheme by Mr. Ruettiger’s well-known, feel-good story but found themselves in a situation that did not have a happy ending,” said Scott Friestad, associate director of the SEC’s enforcement division, in a statement. “The tall tales in this elaborate scheme included phony taste tests and other false information.”
What kind of tall tales is the SEC talking about? One example is literature mailed to potential investors falsely claiming that in “a major southwest test, Rudy outsold Gatorde 2 to 1.” While these sorts of promotions were going on, the SEC says promoters were artificially inflating the price of Rudy Nutrition’s stock while selling unregistered shares to investors.
Like his heroic football story, the stock scam has its origins in South Bend, Ind., where Ruettiger and one of his college buddies started a sports drink company they eventually moved to Las Vegas. There, Ruettiger brought in an experienced penny stock promoter, Stephen DeCesare, who was his neighbor. DeCesare became the primary organizer of the stock scam, the SEC claims, putting together a reverse merger of a Pink Sheets-traded shell company.
DeCesare brought in other stock promoters to inflate the stock price through bogus trading and stock touting, increasing the company’s stock price from 25 cents to .05. The amount of stock trading hands rose from 720 shares to 3 million. But in this case, the story turned out to be unbelievable.

LOS ANGELES — Say it ain’t so, Rudy.
Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, the 5-foot-6 walk-on Notre Dame football player whose underdog story inspired the 1993 movie "Rudy," has seen his sports drink venture turn out less happily – with allegations of securities fraud.
In a lawsuit Friday, the Securities and Exchange Commission accused Ruettiger, 63, and 12 others of swindling investors in Rudy Nutrition, a Gatorade challenger he started with a college friend in South Bend, Ind.
Ruettiger got in trouble when he moved the company to Las Vegas in 2007 and joined a fast crowd that pumped out promotions to penny-stock investors. The SEC said the participants dumped million worth of stock in a company that had few customers and no profits.
The drink, called Rudy, carried the slogan "Dream Big! Never Quit!" A promotional mailing claimed that in "a major Southwest test, Rudy outsold Gatorade 2 to 1!"
An email boasted that in "several blind taste tests, Rudy outperformed Gatorade and Powerade by 2:1," the SEC suit states.
Both statements were false, according to the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Las Vegas. The promoters are accused of manipulating trading to artificially inflate the price of Rudy Nutrition stock while selling unregistered shares to investors.
Only 0,000 of the more than million raised went back into Rudy Nutrition, said Scott W. Friestad, associate director of the SEC’s enforcement division.
"Investors were lured into the scheme by Mr. Ruettiger’s well-known, feel-good story but found themselves in a situation that did not have a happy ending," Friestad said.
Ruettiger and 10 other defendants settled the suit without admitting or denying wrongdoing, Friestad said; the two who have not settled also face criminal prosecution.
Ruettiger paid back 5,750 he made in the alleged scam, a fine of the same size and interest that brought his total to 2,866.
He also agreed to be banned from serving as an officer or director of a public company and from promoting penny stocks.
"He was a willing participant in the scheme, but not the ringleader," Friestad said, adding that Ruettiger had honest intentions when he founded the company and got caught up in the promotional scheme after it struggled.
The SEC revoked registration of the stock in late 2008 and Rudy Nutrition shut down.
Ruettiger, a dyslexic child with 13 siblings who applied to Notre Dame four times before he was admitted, was on a practice squad and took part in just one game for the Fighting Irish. He sacked the opposing quarterback in a play that became a centerpiece of the movie.
Currently a motivational speaker, he also started a foundation to benefit children’s advocacy programs and hand out the College Football Rudy Award to players of exceptional commitment.
Ruettiger and his attorney, Michael Eldredge of Salt Lake City, could not be reached for comment.

God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end — time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God’s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can’t explain the world’s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner’s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: “Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.” I’m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. Maybe you could find a Christian friend who could take you to church with them. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.
What do you think? Answer below!
