What is a good study technique? What is a good memorization technique?
Question by summerrrforeverrr: What is a good study technique? What is a good memorization technique?
Final exams are coming up and so I need to study, study, study. Any good studying techniques?
Also, I need to memorize a one act by tomorrow and I barely know a couple lines. Any good memorization techniques?
I suppose these go hand in hand, so if you have one technique for both, that is fine.
Thanks in advance!

Depending on what your trying to memorize, there are some different ways. Say your memorizing definitions, you could make a flash card game. Write the definition on one card and memorize the word. If it is something with length, like history. Look at what you’re memorizing say it to yourself and repeat as many times as it takes until you can repeat it easily without any breaks in between sentences. That’s pretty much what I used to memorize everything. Good luck!

-The best thing you can do to improve memory is repetition and meaningful learning.
-Say your studying, reread the important bits again and again, more importantly write them down, the best way is in an essay about the subject
Find a friend who is willing, and have them ask about the subject, not just specific answers, but really teach them the info, if youre studying photosynthesis literally teach them the whole process, and have them ask you questions about things you dont know clearly enough to make them understand
-Another way is to find meaning, this could also include things like finding out what type of learner you are. I dont know what type i am, but i find that watching lecture videos online that have visual representation help me to understand. Find what way helps you understand.
Adding meaning helps too, find a way to make sense of new info with things you already understand. This is how acronyms work; parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, divide, add, subtract is hard to remember, the acronym pemdas is easier, and its easier still when you say Every Good Boy Does Fine.

Memorization Game and Education?
Question by Blue Ridge: Memorization Game and Education?
Why do educational institutions insist on making memorization the main focus in terms of learning?
Learning cannot be accomplished without memory but I can clearly see that learning these days is more about who can memorize the most.
Sure, we can all memorize math formulas for a test but at the same time, have NO IDEA how to derive the formulas we claim to know so well.
Your thoughts on the memory game as connected to so-called learning?

Answer by OH-Hardwoods
Memory is a vital part of learning, but memorizing answers just to pass a test usually isn’t the best way to learn. Using facts, formulas etc. that you have MEMORIZED in conjunction with creative thinking, imagination, and reasoning is a great way to learn and retain what you have learned.

Q&A: Title of a credible book on memorization techniques?
Question by What’s cookin??: Title of a credible book on memorization techniques?
I’m looking for a book on memorization techniques, that comes from a credible source. There are just too many books out there on this topic for me to sort through, from people hoping to make a quick buck . . . even Kevin Trudeau has his ‘Mega Memory’ book. I want a book from someone who has looked at real research and compiled proven techniques, like a professor.
Please do not suggest a particular technique(s) – I’ve read through the other Yahoo!Answers responses about memory techniques already (almonds, yoga, etc.) – I want a book title.

Answer by Zipper Head
The name of the book is “The Memory Book” by Harold Lorayne & Jerry Lucas
yes, that’s Jerry the old basketball player.
I memorized 136 peoples SSN’s in less than 2 hours using the material in that book. I’m not sure if it’s in print anymore, but It is fantastic. I still use it to this day in everyday life.
P.S. I did the kevin Trudeau one also, but it pales in comparison to the one mentioned above. He actually copies some of the ideas from Harold & Jerry.
