MIT Startup GeriJoy and its Talking Dog Selected by US Senate Special Committee on Aging to Demo Virtual Elder Care Companions in Washington, DC

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Older Americans Month, the US Senate Special Committee on Aging will be holding a Healthy Aging Forum on Thursday, May 23rd, from 10 AM to 1 PM in the Kennedy Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Building. According to the public invitation by the Senate Aging Committee, the forum will feature “interactive demonstrations of homes designed for the aging, exercises geared to seniors, video games used for seniors’ physical and mental fitness, and even a virtual dog who acts as a personal companion.” The last refers to the GeriJoy Companion.

South Elgin Assisted Living and Memory Care Community to Host Informational Programs on ABCs of Alzheimer’s

Heritage Woods of South Elgin, a BMA affordable assisted living and memory care community in South Elgin, Illinois, is hosting an informational series of programs on the ABCs of Alzheimer’s.
The community, which is located in Kane County, Illinois, serves older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid.
The first session of the three-part series on the ABCs of Alzheimer’s is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuersday, Feb. 22.
Trish Uttich, R.N., will be the speaker. She is a dementia specialist and Administrator of Heritage Woods of South Elgin.
Uttich will be discussing the basics of Alzheimer’s and what today’s research shows. There will be time for questions and answers.
The series of programs is open to the public. There is no charge to attend.

The Heritage Woods of South Elgin affordable assisted living and memory care community is located at 700 N. McLean Blvd. in South Elgin, Illinois.
The community is fully certified to operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program and is managed by BMA Management, Ltd., the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois.
“Our affordable assisted living and memory care apartments provide older adults with a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or to struggling alone at home,” says Lillie, whoc is Director of Marketing for Heritage Woods. “Residents benefit from the opportunity to live in a residential apartment-home environment with personal assistance and help with medications.”

Certified nursing assistants are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Meals, housekeeping and laundry are among the included services.
“Residents also benefit from all of the opportunities that are available to socialize with friends and neighbors and participate in activities and special programs no matter what the weather,” says Lillie.
The affordable memory care apartments are in four neighborhoods that are specially designed for older adults with Alzheimer’s and related dementia.
BMA Management, the company that manages Heritage Woods of South Elgin, is based in Bradley, Illinois. The company operates 36 senior living communites that house more than 3,300 homes and apartments.

Lumosity Launches CARE Program to Expand Clinical Research on Brain Training

Lumosity, the leader in online brain training, today announced the launch of its Clinical Access Research & Education (CARE) program, which offers clinicians and their patients free trial access to Lumosity.
