memorization techniques?
Question by lorentzium: memorization techniques?
I have a 25 page rhyming poem that I need to memorize by the end of next month. I’ve found that after I memorize the first five pages and go on to the next five, I often forget the first five and I have to go back and repeat the memorization, which takes an incredible amount of time. Does anyone have a special memorization technique (other than rote repetition) to help me memorize this poem?

associating words with other words, or what it reminds you of.
also:
turn the poem into a story, and remember how the “story” goes, in the correct order.
good luck!
wow thats a lot of pages!!! but yes back to the subject i would do this: take each 5 lines and memorize those for about 10 minutes and then keep reviewing them every single page… then keep on going from there…good luck sweetie and rem that if u look over ur work for a review before u go to sleep or take a nap ur brain will remember and the memorization of what u studied will keep flowing throughout ur mind…best of hopes to u.
try to memorize each line, then make some up some silly way of reminding yourself of the first word in the next line.
i’m a performer, so i have a lot of experience memorizing things. i have a few ways that help me remember things:
1) listen to music while you’re memorizing it. that way, when you’re reciting it, you can try to associate the line you need to remember with a line in the song you were listening to.
2) do something while you memorize it. like, consistently keep yourself busy with little things, like making a sanwich or walking past your couch. when you forget a line, you think, for this line, i was putting jelly on bread, oh yeah, i remember now! it may seem weird, but it works.
3) try to turn it into a story, where one thing leads into another, so you can remember which parts come after which, and that helps you remember all the lines.
i hope i helped, goodluck!
Mnemonics.
A device, such as a formula or rhyme, used as an aid in remembering.
Mnemonics (pronounced “ne-mon’-ics”) is the art of assisting the memory by using a system of artificial aids – rhymes, rules, phrases, diagrams, acronyms and other devices – all to help in the recall of names, dates, facts and figures.
